With less than a month to go before the National Coarse Fishing Federation of Ireland hosts the World Championships for Boat Fishing with Lures in Enniskillen. The organisers are pleased to announce that they now expect a record number of teams to take part in the event.

The biggest ever turnout at a World Championship in this discipline was thirteen (last year in the Ukraine), as at the 02 September the NCFFI committee have already got a commitment to attend from at least 14 countries.

World Champions Ukraine have already being on the water back in April and the highly fancied Russian Team, have just completed a six day training session on the waters of Upper and Lower Lough Erne.

The list of teams committed to the event include England and France who will fish the event for the first time and South Africa who will travel the greatest distance to take part.

During their training session this week the Russian Team of Six anglers caught 59 Pike (over 50cm) the biggest at 91cm was over 20lbs in weight. They also caught 62 Perch above the required size limit of 22cm with the biggest being 32cm.

The Championship Headquarters will be at the Killyhevlin Hotel, however the event launch point will be at the Round O Slipway in the Centre of the town. This will mean spectators on the banks of the river around the town will have an excellent opportunity to witness the highly skilled anglers in action. Team training will take place on Thu/Fri 10/11 with the main event on Sat/Sun 12/13 of Oct.
Fishing on all days will be 10.00am to 4.00pm.

Many local anglers will also be involved in the championship with up to 40 providing themselves as stewards and their boats for the visiting competitors. The NCFFI committee are delighted that planning for the event is well on track and is grateful for the support of all its partners in hosting this event.
